Hypertrophic scar steroid injections?

I'm getting a steroid injection on Saturday so I just have a few questions. How long will it take for the scar to disappear once I get the injection? Are there any side effects? If so, what are they. Will this injection permanently get rid of my scar? If no, is there a way to get it to go away for good?
